Check out my article on Mind Body Green, Why a Doula is Worth the Money!
The word Doula comes from ancient Greek, meaning “a woman who serves.” I am a North Carolina based DONA Certified Doula, which is an International credential for both birth and postpartum assistance to new mothers.
As your Doula, I will offer emotional support, encouragement, and wisdom through pregnancy, birth, and the transformation that a new baby brings to your family in the postpartum period. Doulas are NOT just for birth! While we do help to create ideal birth plans and advocate for the best possible environment for mother and child through the birth experience, a Doula can also serve you AFTER your birth by meal planning, cooking, assisting at home, helping to create feeding and pumping schedules, (including back to work plans for working Moms), AND advising on pelvic floor exercises and interventions.
My personal Doula practice assists in traditional hospital births, and calls on both ancient practices and modern medical knowledge, including use of herbs, essential oils, massage and breathing techniques, meditation, hypnosis, pelvic floor exercise, and nutrition. For the most personalized approach, I provide services from my contract a la carte, or as a birth and/or postpartum doula bundle.
